TEACHING ASSIGNMENT AISG has Secondary School teachers and Teaching Assistants across its programs that can at times, require short or long term cover. Grade levels range from Grade 6 to Grade 12.
(Ages 11-18 years) The final assignment depends on the experience and prior experience of the successful candidate and on scheduling constraints.
CLASS SIZE Between 8-22 students DAILY SCHEDULE 4 x 85 minute periods each day as well as a 10 minute homeroom morning session.
PLANNING TIME Provided when on a long term placement ADDITIONAL DUTIES Break/lunch duty supervision according to a rotating schedule.
Student-led evening event supervision (1-2 per semester) TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES The substitute teacher will be responsible for cover of classes from Grade 6 to Grade 12 where the regular teacher is unable to be in class on a particular day.
For a short term cover, the planning will be left behind by the teacher.
However, longer term cover will require the substitute teacher to prepare lessons that align with the current units of study. AISG prioritizes fully qualified and trained teachers with relevant experience. Effective IT integration is expected within the classroom, as well as the development of research and information literacy skills.
An IT and Library specialist are on hand to provide teacher and student support.
TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS AISG operates a 1:1 laptop program from Grade 6-12. Familiarity with Office365, Atlas Rubicon and Veracross is seen as an asset.
PROGRAM INFORMATION Teachers are required to differentiate student-learning experiences through the use of a variety of teaching and assessment strategies related to a specific subject area to meet the needs of all students.
Teachers are required to maintain records of student progress and achievement and assess students’ academic, social and emotional growth by using both formative and summative assessments. Professional Learning Communities (PLCs use common assessment information and student evidence to ensure all students opportunities for growth are aligned.
For longer term cover situations, substitute teachers will maintain open and clear communication with peer teachers, Heads of Departments, Administrators and if appropriate, Parents. Teachers and/or parents can schedule meetings any time during the school year. Formal reporting occurs two times a year. Parent-teacher conferences take place in October, while Student-Led Conferences occur in March.
